Welcome to "Writing With Rebecca"... a resource for teachers, coaches, administrators, parents, and writers of ALL ages! I believe there is a writer inside you- yes YOU!  We all have one deep in our hearts and we all have stories inside of us that are worthy of sharing with the world.   I teach using a Writers Workshop Approach.   I stand on the shoulders of experts like Lucy Calkins, Ralph Fletcher, Donald Graves, Carl Anderson, and Georgia Heard, to create lifelong writers.   Writers Workshop is the perfect approach for big schools and small schools, for high-achieving schools and low-performing schools, for schools of all economic and social classes.  Writers Workshop builds a community that revolves around literacy and every member of that community learns to live a 'writerly life'.  In addition, Writers Workshop meets the individual strengths and needs of every writer and demands high expectations for writers
of all levels and all ages.

-Lynne R. Dorfman & Rose Cappelli, Mentor Texts

“If you have never written in front of your students before, take the plunge: They will appreciate your
risk taking, and you will have a much clearer idea of what you are actually asking them to do.”

“If we truly want to have a writing workshop where all children are encouraged to find
their own writing voices, we must first find our own.”

-Robert Cormier

“In baseball you get three strikes and you’re out.  In writing you get as many whacks at the
ball as you want until you finally get a hit.”
-Tomie dePaola

“If writing is not for us, why should it be for our students?”
-Donald Graves
